  1. Steph Says:

I love to travel but I don’t get to do it often. For all of my life, I’ve wanted to go to England, and this year I finally did, thanks to my youngest sister, who bought my ticket. North Yorkshire, where I gallivanted and shopped and took tea and had the most fabulous time, is where I could see myself living for the rest of my life. But my hubby has no desire to move out of province, let alone the country!

Which is okay—so long as I can visit often. He knows how badly I want to visit England again. Another of my sisters lives there, and I would love to see her again next year so we can log even more miles than we did this time around across the English moors and dales.

I’ve been squirreling away a bit of money every freelance check I get (in a secret drawer in my rolltop desk!), but—and here comes the answer to your question—this Christmas, I’d love to find under the tree travel money to put toward my ticket, in addition to him saying he’s going to come with me!

If not, and we win this contest, we can travel together somewhere fun in Canada, say to Montreal! After 8 years, we still haven’t had a honeymoon…

  2. Seattle Dredge Says:

As much as I would love to put $200 toward a wonderful trip across Canada, there is somewhere else I need to go more.

    I need to go home!

I only go home (to my mother’s house) a couple of times a year, on holidays. The trip home, is so expensive, that I hardly have the money to do it.

I am scared that I may not even make it home for Christmas this year..

So, all I want for Christmas, is to go home, and spend it with my family!

    …The life of a broke student :(

  3. Lisa Says:

All I want for Christmas… is for our family to all get together… we are spread out across western Canada and we don’t seem to all get together at once and also a new cell phone because mine has been broken for 6 months :)

  4. Dave L. Gagnon Says:

Life has been great for me. Although I am a student, I have a confortable appartement that I share with my lover, great friends and a priceless family. I ma be earning very low wages, my life is full of love and happiness.

All I wish for Christmas, is for all to have a heart full of love and hapiness ! I know people, that’S kind of cheezy, but material presents end up in the garbage most of the time, family and friends don’t!

Merry Christmass and a Happy New Year to all!
    Dv

  5. Joan Elliott Says:

I love these contests! Ok..under my Christmas tree…mmm Well I’ve given this much thought as I really have everything I need so there is nothing I really need. My thoughts always go to those less fortunate. But thinking about my future and retirement in the near future, I have decided to take up golf. What I would like to see under my tree is a Sun Mountain V2 golf cart in nice shiny silver! I’ve joined the ladies league for next season and this would look great holding my clubs and bag as I go around the course!

A trip to new Brunswick, sackville is where i want to return to. Went last year for my son;s university graduation and fell in love with the town, the people and the province. actually, the gift isn’t under the tree – its all around it! My wife and two girls and two boys will all be together around the tree sharing laughs and good times with each other and that is why I look forward to the holidays. Sure, we’ll exchange presents, (and I’m kinda hoping for some nice dressy work clothes….) but the most important special gift doesn’t come in a box…

  16. Melanie Says:

Ever since I’ve been little I have had a really hard time thinking of what I want for Christmas. Honestly, all I want for Christmas is to go home and see my family. I am a fourth year university student and I’ve gotta say.. money is tight. I live far away too so I rarely get to go home and visit. I’m so excited to walk in the door and see the smile on my Mom’s face. Too bad you can’t put that under a Christmas tree haha! All I want for Christmas is my Mommy.

  17. Eileen Hennemann Says:

    Dear Vivian,
I have more than enough stuff and am happy to forego gifts from friends and family throughout the year and at Christmas. This is our third Christmas together and my boyfriend has never been able to make it. I’m hope that this year is the year :)

I would really love to just have my whole family forgive each other for the things that bother them about each other. Love is the most important thing to find under the tree…

  25. Audrey Says:

All I want for Christmas is.. to get healthier! Seems counterintuitive since Christmas is the season of indulgences, in a way, but I’d like to work on my snacking and exercising habits.. sort of a pre-New Year’s resolution, if you will. :)

  48. Sam Says:

This summer, my boyfriend and I were going to take the train through the Mountains. We thought it would be romantic to enjoy the scenery and explore Canada together. As the time approached, we realized that we wouldn’t be able to do this if we wanted to pay for school in the fall.

I would love to have my tuition paid off for Christmas so that maybe next summer we can take that trip :)

  49. Ryan Says:

All I want for Christmas is for my girlfriend to take a VIA Rail train home from Queens to come back home and see me!

  50. Aryka Says:

I told my older brother I’d love a week off and a plane/train ticket home. I moved in September to the east coast to start a new job. The hours and stress have been way more than expected, and the pay way less, after deductions. I missed my best friend’s wedding at Thanksgiving due to lack of time/funds, nor could I come back when my uncle died in September. I’m burning out and would love to get away and just not think about it for awhile. I miss home. :(

I would like to visit Halifax for the first time.

  60. Ruthie Roo Says:

I am in my last year at University in Toronto and have had to take on 36 credits in order to graduate this year, and am doing volunteer experience in Gr.5 class to gets hours for Masters programs that I applied for. Needless to say, I am in that ‘broke-student’ stage and have been relying on our common-room couch as my source of income for paying for laundry facilities. Honestly, my list for Christmas is spattered with items such as socks, laundry soap, dehumidifier (I had both H1N1 and several cases of Strep this year-Residence is so dry), and a genie in a lamp(maybe more of my essays will get done!). I am looking forward to no assignments/seeing my family (they live in Montreal/Calgary)and eating something that is not KD/white rice or Mr. Noodle.

  61. Lu Malle Says:

Family reunion, delicious holiday food, presents for the little ones, walks under the stars in the freezing cold! That’s my ideal Christmas gift.

  62. Melanie Says:

I could definitely use a job.
I could really use some groceries.
    I could desperately use a tuition-fairy.
I would LOVE more than anything to be able to go home for Christmas….

    …but really, what I want, I have. :)

I have a boyfriend who loves me, and who would propose tomorrow if we had the time and money to have the little wedding our families would love to share with us.
I have family who love me, and who tirelessly support me in a thousand ways as I work on my masters, broke and starving again as usual, working on my ‘art’, and never suggesting I get a ‘real job’.
I have friends who love me and call to keep me close even though I’m over 2000 miles away because of school.
I have a warm apartment I love in a neighbourhood I’m getting to know, with three cats and the love of my life, and a comfortable bed to sleep in each night.

And I have enough health to enjoy all of it. <3

  63. Michelle Says:

This year for christmas i hope to get money under my christmas tree! Being a full time student living away from home eats up all the money i make at my part time job, so this christmas id like a little money just to spend on me, and to put towards my travel fund. My boyfriend lives on the opposite side of the province, so some cash to help me buy my train ticket to go visit him at his school would be a perfect gift!

  64. Barb Says:

My sister and I recently traveled from Vancouver to Ottawa on the Canadian train. We would very much like to finish the trip. Smile!

    happy happy holidays!!

  70. Carol Kerkhof Says:

I have a roof over my head, a terrific daughter, loving family and great friends. So I have what counts. But there are those fun things to dream about like a fancy clock radio/docking station for my nano, itunes gift card, someone to do and pay for my clothes shopping and maybe a net book. But what would really be great if we all were kinder to each other and the politicians and bureaucrats made more sustainable, socially responsible decisions.

  71. Dianne Gallo Says:

  78. G Laflamme Says:

All I want for Christmas… This is usually hard for me. I am a student and live a really wonderful life. However, I tend to wish for untangible things.. such as better grades, world peace, happiness, the answers to all of life’s questions. However, travelling has always been a passion for me and my boyfriend. We hope to travel the world and visit all of Canada and learn our history and heritage. This year, I can wish that I win this awsome contest and continue with this lovely journey thanks to Via Rail! I would also wish everyone luck in this contest because I’m sure all of you deserve it just as much as me! Merry Christmas everyone :)

  79. Aynsley Strong Says:

I wish I could hug my daughter. My 11-year-old daughter moved from Manitoba to live with her father in Alberta where they have programs to meet her medical needs. I miss her so much.As a f/t student and with the other kids still living with me I’m not sure when I can afford to see her again.I know this bothers her too. I wish I could surprise her with a visit.

  80. Scott Clyke Says:

I think it would be nice to find a winning million dollar lottery ticket under the christmas tree come december 25th. I can’t think of a better way to change the lives of everyone in my family, along with a few close friends lives, and my own in one fell swoop. Its a long-shot i know, but at least i’ll get to spend time with all of them again this year, whether my number comes up or not.

  84. Krista J Says:

All I want for Christmas is a chance to see some of my friends out west! Being a new graduate in this economy is tough and it has meant that many of my friends have had to move across the country for work. One of my good friends spent all of her savings to move out to Alberta for work and now she is quite homesick. It would be the best Christmas present ever if I could surprise her with a train ticket to come home and visit with all her friends and family in Toronto.

  85. Albert Says:

All I want for Christmas… is to have our family together to share in the spirit of the holidays.

He and all his family and friends are doing there best to stay positive about his recovery. This Christmas what I would like, would be to be able to give him the gift of joy. 99. Ayan Y K Says:

I love to take pictures! And i can honestly say i have the eye for it. I just know if given the chance to have a REAL camera I’d be a great photographer. 100. Pat Says:

The perfect gift under the tree would be to surprise my family with a surprise visit from me. ‘Tis the season to be reunited and that is the perfect gift anyone can give.

  101. Amber Gordon Says:

I’ve recently started school about four hours away from home. It is a huge pain to get home because I have to take multiple trains and buses and even then someone has to pick me up an hour from my house.Plus it gets expensive. So this VIA Rail travel credit would be wonderful for both me and my bank account. Thats what I want under my tree for Christmas, so I can visit home more often.

All I want for Christmas is that my daughter and her family have walls, and a floor, and perhaps a ceiling, a bed??? in their house (which is all torn up and under repairs)so that I can go there for a change and eat turkey and visit with my 3 grand-babies… but if they just get their laundry hooked up I’m happy to sleep on the floor!! as long as they can cook!!! Oh, would I LOVE to find a Book Publisher sitting under my tree Christmas Morn! Willing, able and ready to distribute my first book I have just completed! A prose that I wrote for my mum combined with my photography..its realllly cool! Of course the Via Rail travel credit would be amazing, then I could visit my new publisher whenever I wanted to!! So excited to awake on the 22nd, JUST incase wishes DO come true! Come on Viv, work your magic girl! Thank you! K:)

  105. Lori Says:

I quit smoking one year ago as a Christmas present to my loved ones (and myself). Then I had to lose the weight associated with quitting! It’s been a big year! Since none of my family has seen me since, and neither my younger brother or I can afford the trip home to see everyone this year, I’d love to go visit him in New York City (much closer), so at least the two of us and our partners can spend the holidays together… :)

I *also* want a “bean north coffee” travel mug (because I lost mine after buying it in Whitehorse last Christmas… and it was the best travel mug EVER!) AND… I would love this book: http://www.birdbook.org/, because I’m a huge nerd ;)

Such good intentions from every post – it fills my heart to read this collective move away from the equation of the holidays with material gain.
For Christmas this year as all others, I ask for the continued health of my family and friends, and for the pay-it-forward effect to travel to those places on this Earth where it is most needed.

This year I would love to get a surprise gift from my family of a 2 or 3 night getaway, maybe not too far away, but just to have quiet, no housework, see the sites, and do a little shopping. I think a lot of us would just like to get away and and have a little alone time.

  119. Gale M Says:

  120. Julie Chamberland Says:

For Christmas, I wish for my ten year old daughter good health for the future. She suffers from polycystic kidney disease which affects 1 in 500 Canadians. I am hopeful that one day there will be a cure and a healthy girl….under my tree.

  121. alison k Says:

If we’re talking about a real camera, then I would greatly appreciate a replacement camera. My current one has faulty software & it would be wonderful to reinstall & save the hardware but I haven’t found that option yet. To miss out on passing moments is a shame – my nephew’s infectious giggly face, my parents lovingly kissing their grandson, my brother glancing with appreciate at his wife. And maybe tickets for a flight to visit him come summer.

  154. M. M. Says:

My Christmas wish? Native land in native hands. Or a cancer free family. But if I were to wish for something realistic it would be a kevlar canoe!
    :)

  155. Susan K Says:

Lots of lofty wishes but my down to earth one would be to have the bike my daughter is dreaming of waiting under the tree.

  156. Brenda Says:

All I want for Christmas is for my son to travel with me to visit his Grandmother to celebrate her 80th birthday which is just before CHristmas.

  157. Josh Rachlis Says:

Under the tree, I like to see another tree! A little one. That I could plant. In a backyard. Of a new house. In a beautiful neighbourhood where it would have lots of other trees to play with. Struggling to live on a fixed pension is not a lot of fun, so for Christmas this year, I would like to find a winning lottery ticket to give some relief to our financial situation. Struggling to live on a fixed pension is not a lot of fun, so for Christmas this year, I would like to find a winning lottery ticket to give some relief to our financial situation. 172. heather Says:

I would really like for my entire family to come visit me in toronto. We could spend the day catching a raps game and walking west on queen street or bumbling about in kensington market.

  173. Chelsea Therrien Says:

All I want for Christmas, is to make my dad happy. I want to take my father somewhere he would love to go, Vancouver, Banaff, Halifax, somewhere special. He really deserves, everything he has been through, and how strong he has been, he needs something that is just for him. I only get to see him every few months because of being in University, and I miss every day, I feel like I am walking on air, I look up at the sky, and I feel like a millionaire because of the way my Dad makes me feel. I really wish I could surprise him with the best present ever, spending the holidays with my mom and I, somewhere he wants to go.

  174. Mary Says:

I would like to have my family get together and for everyone to have a good time and enjoy each other’s company.

My wish isn’t for myself but for two other special women in my life who have struggled to start families – I would wish for each of them to welcome healthy babies into their loving families in the new year.

  176. Ryan Says:

This Christmas is entirely different. I want to wish that the people in my country gets a better life from this country’s system from suppression and corruption. I normally would wish something for myself, but then I am looking only to satisfy my own. Today I wish a better life for everyone in my country. I wish that the poverty stricken would be freed from the greed of control upon them and to be finally financially free to enjoy life as it was meant to be. cheers!

  177. Kay Race Says:

What I really want for Christmas is to be back in Canada with my family. I miss them. Christmas without them is not the same… I am grateful for my loving husband and baby on the way here in Korea, but Canada will always be my home.

  178. Benny Says:

    to see Santa

  179. Jacques Saumur Says:

What I really want for Christmas is actually what my mother as been wanting as well for years. I wish for my entire family to get together in one place and have a very nice and special complete family picture taken. We’ve never had one done where everybody was present at our age, and it breaks my heart to think it might not happen before one of us is gone for good. I hope this year will be the one and we can all join to celebrate the greatest Christmas we’ve ever had by being together with love.

  180. Karine Says:

What I want most for Christmas are Via Rail gift cards. They’re at the top of the Christmas list I gave to my family. I go back and forth between Montreal and Toronto on average once every six weeks in order to visit my boyfriend who is working on contract there until the Spring of 2011. If I got nothing else for Christmas but gift cards to help out with buying the train tickets, I would be completely satisfied, because what my family would be giving me even more than the tickets would be more time with my boyfriend and that is utterly priceless.

  181. Todd Swentek Says:

Though it won’t fit under the tree, I could really use an extension ladder so that I’m not risking my life trying to get on the roof for the Christmas lights using a dilapidated wooden ladder.

  182. Mara Says:

As an avid photographer, I am always struggling to buy new gadgets to enhance my photos. This Christmas, I would love a new flash.
As a teenager, typical wishlist items are also on my list this year; new sweaters, new lululemon pants, new cell phone.
However, the main worry on my mind this year is the upcoming holidays. My boyfriend lives six hours away and the only way to see him is by train. I am heading to university next year and my parents don’t have money to send me on the trip very often. To make matters more complicated, I am taking an online course through the university he is attending… and my exam is close to christmas. I have to take a train trip up, but I have no financial plan to get that trip. This contest would provide me with that transportation. Without it, I may not be able to make the exam (and fail the course my parents paid for) and may not see my boyfriend over the holidays. :(

  183. Karen Rektor Says:

All I want for Christmas is to meet a very wealthy, handsome man, my age, who enjoyed every aspect of life to the fullest, including me and my family. Then I could ‘fix two birds with one stone’ – I would forever be happy, an be able to take care of my parents and get them 24 hour a day nursing care at home, so they wouldn’t have to be apart, one on oxygen at home, struggling, and one in complex care at Freeport hospital, paralyzed and living with a trake and breathing machine. That way when they do go to their rest, they would also be happy!!

  184. Allan Lough Says:

I like to travel but been no where far by train, I always wanted to go Halifax if I can go there that will be all I want for christmas as we marry 23 years and my wife live there where she was about 9

  185. Mary Robertson Says:

    Dear Vivian & VIA Rail,
Christmas has always been kept merry in the heart of our family. But this year is different. My dear mother who is 93 recently suffered a mild stroke. She still can travel and has tickets for herself and my daughter and grandson (her grand-daughter and great grandson are traveling with her from London, through Toronto and on to Montreal on the VIA Rail. They are traveling to Quebec to spend Christmas with my brother who lives in St. Agatha.
This year I was laid off work in January, and have just gone back to work in October so things are a little tight this year for anything but the basics. I am very grateful for my family, their love and that we can share our lives with one another. For obvious reasons, I would like to spend time to create more beautiful memories with my mother.
So, this Christmas my wish of wishes would be to find a return Via Rail Ticket from Vancouver to Montreal. This would make a dream come true. I miss them so much. Four generations of family could gather around the Christmas table, pull the dinner crackers, wear the silly hats from inside (the cracker), and look across the table from one antoher through the glow of the candlelight…and see the love reflecting back, as my mother tells the story of Yuletimes of Yesterdays.

  186. Robin S Says:

What I would love for Christmas are things to help me live a greener life. It’s so important to reduce the impact we have on this planet. It’s even more important to remember that at this time of year when we tend to go to excess without thinking about it.

  187. Robin Spittal Says:

What I would love for Christmas are things to help me live a greener life. It’s so important to reduce the impact we have on this planet. It’s even more important to remember that at this time of year when we tend to go to excess without thinking about it.

  191. Anne Lynne Says:

Due to family problems last year we were not able to enjoy Christmas dinner together. My brother and his family were truly missed. I am as sucker for Christmas. I give more than I ever ask for and material gifts are few if any. This Christmas, I would love to be surrounded by warm people and share moments that are magical. This is proof that the little kid in us never dies and we will always have our youth if we believe.

  201. Julia Yeung Says:

My wishlist consists of one item: waffle iron.

  202. marc-andre taillefer Says:

It has always been a wish of mine to take a train trip across Canada. Perhaps a 200$ gift would help out with that.

  203. Jessica Barr Says:

This Christmas, I would like nothing better than to spend time with the people I love. This includes a dear friend in Montreal who I haven’t seen in a long time because neither of us can afford to travel. Winning a travel voucher would mean so much to both of us.

  204. Julie Laliberte Says:

All I want for Christmas is a boyfriend… or a golden retriever, but I think the boyfriend would be a better. I would like somebody to share my good and bad moments with, somebody to love, somebody to come home to, somebody to cook dinner for, somebody to cuddle with, someone who would love me no matter how weird I can be, somebody I could surprise with treats and make happy, somebody who would be proud of me and who would help me when I’m down.
Oh, you know what? I’ll just take a golden retriever instead!

  205. Karen Larson Says:

Santa, please bring me enough money to pay for homecare for my husband for 10 days. He has Alzheimers and I cannot go away and leave him alone. I want to go to Montreal to see my family and grandchildren, but I cannot leave hubby alone! I haven’t seen them in 2 years. This is my Christmas/New Year’s wish.

  206. V.Martin Says:

Christmas is a wonderful time of year, it also brings back so many happy memories of my children when they where young. For Christmas this year I would like a photo of all three of them standing beside the three pine trees that we planted when they where little. I have other pictures of them beside the trees over the years that they planted as seedlings. Happy times!

  207. Alicia Puritt Says:

All I want for Christmas this year is a scrapbook…I’m in my second year of university and while I think it’s great to be able to post pictures online; what I really want is something that I can hold onto and look back at and remember all the great times I had with all my awesome friends and family!! Memories are always way more fun to look at when you can pull them out and laugh at the stories that go with each picture!

  208. amanda Says:

  211. Juzer Says:

not sure how this would fit under a tree, but a paid vacation along the trans-siberian railway with a new canon EOS 7D to capture the trip.

  212. nicole Shimura Says:

Perhaps this sounds silly, but I would like a chair to sit in at my desk. I am living proof that you CAN slouch on a yoga ball. I’ve been drooling an ergonomic mesh chair made of recycled materials. It won’t quite fit under a tree, but an IOU will suffice.

  213. Stephanie Says:

This Christmas is the first Christmas that I will be able to spend in the same province (and the same apartment) as my fiance. The perfect gift under the tree would be a pair of comfy fleece pjs so we can cuddle up on the couch and watch the Disney parade on tv.

For Christmas I would very much like to spend time with my Oma in Ontario. I’ve grown up in BC and cannot recall the last time I spent a holiday with her. Fortunately, I will be making my own wish come true (so perhaps this puts me out of the running for the prize) once I finish this awesome cross-country trip by train!

  220. Marg Kupper Says:

Winning a $200.00 Vial Rail credit voucher would make me soooo happy as 2010 is the year we have decided to try Via Rail for our 50th so a trial run would be great.

  221. Laurie S. Says:

All I want for Christmas is a Halifax to Vancouver Island, Rocky Mountaineer Vacation. It has been an extremely long year for my husband & I. In April my 74 year old mother fractured her right hip. She spent 6 weeks in General Hospital plus 6 weeks in Rehab Hospital. Week 7 of mom’s rehab, her brother passed away. We are 5 hours away from the rest of our family.(my father had a partial right sided stroke 2 years ago). Then my husbands, 90 year old, independant mother, was in General Hospital with a possible fracture. My husband’s mother & family live near us. In June, my husband’s identical twin, had 2 strokes & he wasn’t expected to life. However, he arrived home in the fall. He was able to see his son get married. Plus becoming a grandfather. However, with a busy past year, in the end, we still have our family….together. It will still be a Joyous Christmas!

  222. Pat H Says:

Since 2008 was a year of taking care of health issues, 2009 is shaping up to be a year of better health & learning how to cope with my new situation! Unfortunately, 2009 has also been a year of very sad year due to too many losses of loved ones.

Under the tree for Christmas 2009, I would like a new pet to keep us company, as I am indoors alot (our ‘kitten’ of 14 yrs passed), and a trip across Canada, Europe, Australia to visit relatives and friends.

I wish everyone good cheer and peace for this Holiday Season and for the New Year!

  223. Gladys Says:

All I really want this Christmas is for our family to be together to help each other through the first Christmas without my dad. The loss of someone so special in a family will be felt even more at Christmas time.

  230. Susie Says:

All I want for Christmas is a VIA Rail train trip to a region of Canada I have never had the pleasure of visiting before (preferably in the comfort of a ‘Sleeper Class’ which would also be a brand new, exciting experience). Travel is my ultimate pleasure in life & a welcome respite, prescription really, for the ills of normal, too often boring, frequently stressful, day-to-day life. Canada is a stunning country where a lack of warmth in winter is compensated by the sincerely warm spiritedness of its citizens. I want to experience more of our country & a gift certficiate for VIA Rail train travel would be exactly what I’d want most to see under the Christmas tree!

  231. Cassandra Federbusz Says:

All I want for Christmas is to be happy and healthy.
I lost my mother a short while ago, that’s one less person to share in the festivities.
I left a very special someone in Australia when I was there last February who I haven’t seen since and won’t see for a long time.
I feel like there has been a lot of sadness in my life in recent times and I’d like for something or someone to shed some light into my life.

  239. Steph Says:

You’d think being a student for 4 years, would make you any less homesick..APPARENTLY this isn’t the case. Exams are approaching and I want to go home so badly; however, this year’s holiday plans will be different since I have a job here at school. I have to work Christmas eve, and Boxing Day, and therefore, have little time to spend at home with my family. I would love for a little “mandatory holiday time spent with family and friends” card from my boss, under the tree. I’m a student, away from home, with an undecorated house, and a stressful few weeks ahead of me. My boss’s wish for me to spend time with my family would mean so much to me!

  240. Eva Hlavon Says:

A trampoline – a small one – for the house to jump up and down with joy – and hope my parents came make it to our little Port Alice. Aussi pour Darrel.

  241. Laurie Wallace Says:

    Dear Viv,
It would be so magical if I could
bring my daughter home from Ottawa,to see her brother and
    sister dance in the Nutcracker,
for the first time ever in their
lives. She is paying off her
student loan, and does not know
if she can come home for Christmas. My husband is not
    getting enough hours at work,
so tickets under the tree, to
see the kids dance, would be
all the gift I would hope for.
    Having my eldest daughter come
home for Christmas, to be with
    her brothers and sister, would
be the greatest blessing of all!
    Merry Christmas everyone!!!
I wish all Canadians a beautiful
    and peaceful holiday season!!

  242. Nancy Says:

I have all the stuff that I need, so I’ll just wish for an extra kiss and a hug from my sweetie…and if that happened in an exotic location, I wouldn’t complain.

  249. Crystal Conrad Says:

Since being away from University in Montreal for a semester overseas working and I am returning to nothing – an aparment, furnishings, books, anything of the sort would be excellent…also some sort of a ticket home to see my family since I haven’t seen them forever due to school and work and I miss them so much as we are so close!!!

  251. Peter Payan Says:

‘All I want for Christmas’ is a Train Ticket to anywhere in Canada! I’m a real Railfan too.

I would love to travel to see my scattered family accross Canada. We have relatives in Surrey BC as well as in Ontario.

Train travel is always the Best way to go, leaving the driving to someone else as you enjoy the comforts and scenery along the routes.

I’ve travelled extensively within Canada, almost always by Train.

  252. Julie Says:

All I want for Christmas is snow on the 24th and the 25th. And I hope my car won’t break down on the road from Montreal to Toronto when I go surprise my friend on her birthday on the 27th! (She never had her best friend with her on her birthday)

We would love to do that again.

    Thanks and Merry Christmas

  254. Gaelle Says:

I have lost 49lbs over the past few months so I would really like some new clothes (or gift certificates) for Christmas as very little of what’s in my closet fits!! And since my husband and I never got around to going on our honeymoon 3 years ago and he loves the mountains… a trip to the Rockys by train would be a great present too!!

  255. Miriam Says:

I would like a new computer and a printer. I have an old second-hand laptop that was given to me that’s only good for e-mails. I don’t like laptops and would prefer a desktop computer and printer.

  256. Debbie Says:

I would love to take the train through the Rockies! That would be my dream holiday.

  257. john Says:

To be around to see next Christmas…..

  258. Sarah Says:

All I want for Christmas is my student loans paid!

For Christmas this year I would like an ipod. I would use it to listen to podcasts and audio books and music while traveling on the train.

  260. Sarah Says:

What I want most to find under my Christmas Tree this Christmas is a trip to Toronto to see the Tut exhibit at the AGO. I was fortunate to have attended the exhibit when it was there 30 years ago and I am still mesmerized by the memory of it. I want to see it again and cherish that feeling once more.

  267. Kathy Barton Says:

I was very fortunate this fall to visit the state of Arizona and experience the natural beauty of that state. I travelled with my husband for our 25th wedding anniversary. I have been and actually lived in western Canada for a short time and have always told my husband that he needs to see it. Espcially being Canadian, I think you should see your own country first. My husband has always said that he would love to travel by train to see our beautiful country. So for that reason, I would love to win the $200 train travel voucher. Merry Christmas everyone!

  268. Julie Says:

    Lots of Snow !!!!

  269. Annette Downey Says:

My oldest daughter has been to both the East Coast of Canada and the West Coast. I managed to visit her each time she was away. I would love to be able to go back to each of the coasts again as they are both so beautiful. We keep looking down the road towards retirement and think that it would be nice to retire on one or the other coasts. But which one?? I definitely need to check them both out again. That would be a wonderful trip. Great mother and daughter time, too!!

  270. Carmen Says:

Two things: snow and to spend the holidays with my family.

Christmas has always been my absolute favourite time of the year! My dream gift would be to visit Scottland & Ireland with my Mom & Dad. Their eyes light up whenever they learn new things. Thanks ViaRail for all you do in bringing people together all year round!

I’m hoping for a trip by train to the west coast!

But for the purpose of this contest, I wish that my daughter and I could visit “Grandpa” and my best friend in Toronto over the holidays. We love travelling with VIA! Happy Holidays.

  275. Kate Says:

  285. Donna Pratt Says:

All I want for Christmas is to be with my sister in Vancouver! We were separated at birth and I can count on one hand the number of times I have made it out to visit her since we were reconnected in 97. Life is short and family is important. Appreciate them.

  286. carolyn keating Says:

When you are blessed with a wonderful family and friends there isn’t really much more to ask for under your tree but…i would love to help my son out in his trip to the west coast via, via.

    All I want for Christmas..
is a new wallet!! Its about time I changed my wallet. Its a tad too large for my taste, I have no idea why on earth did I even get it in the first place.. Stupid. A Pierre Cardin one would be nice, though I would prefer it not to be black. Too boring! or perhaps an iPod Nano. Perhaps if my finances really really allows it, this darling would be a definite yes. My poor iPod mini is so going to be obsolete.. Hmm, come to think of it, maybe its a good idea to just continue using my mini first..

  289. Shamima Says:

I would love a kindle so I don’t have lug around half a dozen books on my road, train and plane trips :)

    :)

  294. Donna Crozier Says:

Ten years ago my husband and I took a VIA Rail trip with his grandmother to Truro, NS. She was 89 years old and taking her last trip back home to her birth place. At that time, we said that we would love to repeat the train trip someday. Unfortunately, she has since passed away and we were not able to repeat that trip herself but I would love to trace our steps from 10 years past and return to Truro to personally deliver heirlooms that need to be distributed to her family back in Nova Scotia.

  295. Jacqueline A Barrow Says:

What I would like for Christmas is to give my mother a cross-country trip from Halifax to Vancouver. Since she was a child in Barbados she always wanted to travel across Canada and see the Prairies, Rockies, and big cities. We frequently travel to Ottawa and Quebec City by bus & VIA Rail but I really want her to live her dream and see the rest of this beautiful country. I tried getting tickets to the Vancouver Olympics but sadly they were out of my price range. This trip would be wonderful for her and a great reward for overcoming a scary illness last year and it would also give her some inspiration for her art work and paintings.

    Thank you,

    Jacqueline

Park in BC sleeping in our Toyota hatchback ( with our dog!)I’ve always wanted to return and have imagined doing so on the train with a sleeper car. Imagine seeing that magestic mountain range from the Park car with the panoramic view! My husband would happily add a side trip from La Pas to Putatawagan. Either way, a $200 gift cert. would certainly be a well spent and Christmas present

My sister took the train in the fall to pick them up and drive them back here so they could use their car. I will be driving them home (Gaspe coast)and coming home on VIA. I hope this year under the tree we finally get my husband’s permanent residence card. He can not leave the country to visit his family until it is processed and I can see he really misses his family! Now with the $200 gift card, we will be sure to visit my family who love him like their own!

  311. Wendy Burmister Downey Says:

Twenty four years ago I met a man while I was at University. He was a nice enough fellow and we both wrote for the university newspaper so we became affable aquaintances. In the intervening years I had done all the things people do; worked, got married had a daughter. Unfortunatley my husband passed away in 2004 from cancer. Life carried on. In March 2008 I received a facebook message from my former classmate. We chatted and decided to meet up for drinks the next time he was in town. Things went so well that we have been seeing each other for over a year now. The down side to this wonderful and growing relationship is that he lives in Ottawa and I live in Burlington. Neither of us has the means to travel as often as we would like so visits are a precious commodity. Nothing would make me happier than to be able to visit him more often. Last Christmas my family gave me Via rail gift certificates and I put them to good use by travelling to Quebec with my sweetheart. A gift that allowed me to do that again would be the one gift under the tree that made me jump up and down and squeal with delight.

  312. Jason Says:

My wish is to be able to take my family on a trip ANYWHERE outside Manitoba, we have only been to a few of the attractions around Manitoba and would love to go outside of it.

  313. Elizabeth Says:

For Christmas I would like to be with my family and friends. This year we are all separated and it will be a small Christmas. I would love for everyone to be together. And I hope that it doesn’t snow!

  314. Victor Ting-A-Kee Says:

I hope Santa leaves a huge lottery prize under my tree.

  315. Amy Lauzon Says:

Like most of the country I am now part of the unemployed ranks. I’ve barely even thought about what I may want to find under the tree unless a great job can be wrapped under there with a giant Red Ribbon! This year I’ve decided to bake all my gifts thanks to my mothers recipes…
I enjoy seeing my family and seeing friends that one time a year for x-mas gatherings. I’m quite content with that, and if this year I get a $200.00 cash credit to VIA… well I would probably be quite extatic!
    HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU ALL!!!

  332. Amanda Says:

I am hoping to get a few books to read. There is nothing better than spending the holidays curled up on the couch with family reading a good book.

  333. Aubrey Says:

I really like getting stuff for Christmas that I would never buy myself – stuff like spa certificates or nice earrings or other girly things I just don’t feel justified splurging on ordinarily! Some new highly impracticable little suede booties would definitely fit the bill too :) .

  340. kathleen Says:

As a single mom I always get fantastic arts and crafts from my nine year old daughter and my sisters and parents always treat me at Christmas to something special. This year I am being practical…I would love a new blush/bronzer and a new mascara. Something i use everyday but don’t necessarily want to spend big bucks on. If I won this $200 travel credit, I’d take my daughter to Carnaval in Quebec City. Something we have always wanted to do…but haven’t yet done due to the driving conditions getting there from Toronto. What a trip that would be! Thanks.

  341. Paulette Neill Says:

    Dear Santa,
I am a retired teacher and I just want to thankyou for Via Rail and its’ dream gift of $200 travel voucher. It is wonderful prizes like this that makes Christmas and Santa so real. Reading all the contestants wishes brought tears to my eyes. Seeing as I am in school and only work part time I will not be able to afford their surgeries without some help. Since all of my money will be spent on this winning the $200 credit would help me to visit my boyfriend who lives two hours away, that I will not be able to see unless I can pay for travel. I hope whoever wins enjoys their trip!

  345. David Says:

A nice framed picture of my new grandaughter – a present money cannot buy….

  346. Brittany Says:

Although there is a few things that i could say i could use if i got them for christmas, but there is only one thing that i actually want. that thing is to be home for christmas. this is because i am a university student living very far from home (have not seen the family since the start of the year) and to be with my now fiance, on our anniversy he proposed to me over msn and if i could get home to him and for the first time be togeather as a couple engaged to be married, would make my year.

I would love to a trip where I could truly relax!

  349. Ev Beatson Says:

What I find myself really longing for this Christmas is to see all of the animals in shelters get a good home. I know this is not possible so I am hoping and praying as many as possible will. It makes me very sad to see them in cages with no one to love them.

  350. Lindsay Says:

I have lived between BC and Nova Scotia since I was Six years old. With a parent on either coast I have made the trip many times. I now live in Vancouver and my mom still lives in Dartmouth NS. I often go a year or two between visits due to the cost of travel and being a student. It is coming up on three years now since I have been home to visit the longest we have been apart yet. I would love it if my mom could come to me this year and meet my Boyfriend of two years and see what my life is like here in BC. Winning this contest would help me get my mom here so that I might share my life with her in away I haven’t done as an adult. That would mean the world to me. Thank you and good luck to everyone.

  351. JD Says:

My girlfriend/best friend needs this gift for Christmas because of the tough year she went through. It would make it so much easier for her to get home to be with her family because she works so hard in school, but can not afford to see them often. It would make both of our Christmas to see each other!

  352. Lisa Says:

This is the first year since I was 14 that I haven’t really had a job. Since I am in school working on 2 law degrees, I don’t have time to work and was denied OSAP. I still have a lot of bills and expenses though. So what I really want is just some money so I can pay my bills and a bit extra so I could treat myself every once in awhile to something I want rather than something I need.

  353. Barbara Mulvihill Says:

I love to travel but finding someone to share it with is really hard. I have a sister who is having a real hard time and has not been able to go anywere or do anything in a long long time. I would love to be able to take her on the trip of a lifetime. For her anywere would be fine.

  360. Jenn Netzel Says:

I like Christmas because knowing that there’s one day in the year where no matter what it is, there’s so many smiles, and those little few gifts I receive from people I love and every year it helps me treasure the day even more. If there’s one wish I would love to have fulfilled is if on a georgous winter morning, having light snowflakes falling and seeing the sunrise, then having my boyfriend propose to me in front of my family this year since it’s his first time coming on the VIA Rail with me to Saskatchewan for Christmas. What an incredible day that would be!

  361. Rob Says:

200 of via travel would be great.

  362. L.E. Says:

What would make my season wonderful would be time with my Mum in the nursing home, singing our family’s favorite Christmas song: C.H.R.I.S.T.M.A.S. by Jim Reeves. We’re not sure how much longer her dementia will allow this to happen, so one more time would create another happy memory.

  364. N.K. Says:

We just got back from taking the Ocean overnight train that runs from Montreal to Halifax, although we got on in Drummondville and off in Moncton. and drove to PEI to see family. The Renaissance train is gorgeous and comfortable. I would do this again soon especially if I won the $200.

All I want for Christmas- is a special time with family.

  369. Stephen Swain Says:

Well, I find myself doing more and more travelling lately. And while I enjoy travel, I hate packing. All I have are hockey bags and backpacks. So I would like to get a really nice set of luggage. That way, when I travel, I can be more assured that everything I’ve brought with me is secure and relatively safe.

In Love, would be my cherished husband and all our family. The love that is found in home baked goodies done with children. Finally, when I open Laugh, I wish for the laughter to continue when I hear my grandchildren’s giggles and seeing the fun they have as children. I need no material gifts….I have them every day of my life.

  392. Hal Says:

All I want for Christmas is to be able to see my daughter and granddaughter. They only live in Kingston and I only live in Ottawa but we are both on disability pensions so it is too expensive for us to travel to see each other. The $200 would allow us to all be together for Christmas which we were’t able to be for a couple of years.

    Thanks

  403. Rosa Baldesarra Says:

To volunteer my time on x-mas
eve either at a food bank or
a soup kitchen, then it would
    seem more like Christmas, helping
and feeding the needy, thats what
    this holiday is all about,not

  420. Lori Says:

All I want for Christmas is a Paint Stick for our car in case we get any rock chips. Our only car was parked on a street and got hit. Nobody was in it, thank goodness! The damage to the car was more than it was worth; so the insurance company wrote it off. We spent more money than we received from the insurance company in order to get a reliable car. The salesman wouldn’t even throw in a 14.00 Paint Stick. If the Paint stick isn’t in stock then I’d like one of my favorite Christmas treats, which is a box of After Eights.

  421. Heather Renton Says:

I’ve been very fortunate to have travelled accross Canada and took in the New Year celebrations on Via Rail in 2006/07 and 2008/09. Via Rail is a fantastik way to travel. 433. Patricia Reeve Says:

Though not Canadian, I am very much in love with your exceptional country. I live near BC and travel there often and have made 2 transcontinental trips fr Vancouver to Montreal. My family are all deceased and this will be my first Christmas
without “family”. What I would Most like to find under my tree would be the $200 to be used towards the ticket
to travel fr Montreal to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. I’ve never been there but have seen many travelogues, books, photos,
and more. I have wanted, for ever so long, to see their magnificient vistas and to do some birding and hiking along the beaches. The years are zipping by and I’ve just reached 70. So, now is the perfect time for a trip such as this! Wouldn’t you agree? Yes, of course.
TY ever so much for reading my secret hearts desire and considering it in your contest.

I am hoping to see the mp3 player under the tree.

Considering we’re in some interesting and challenging times, I’m willing to go gift free this year, but I would like to use that time to acknowledge how important it is to have family and those true friends around as well as to provide to the less fortunate at this time.

With that said I would like to use that $200 Prize to take my girlfriend out to Montreal or Quebec City for skiing since she’s never been out of the province and she’s never been skiing before.

  441. Chris Gibb Says:

Every year my family makes a two-day from Montreal to Thunder Bay to spend the holidays with my Mom’s side of the family. Much of our time is spent playing hockey on the outdoor rinks. Every afternoon and night in town we join with the locals for a game of shinny at Wayland, the neighbourhood rink. At the Boxing Day Party at my cousin’s camp on Oliver Lake the annual intergenerational hockey game lasts for hours. We also spend a day traipsing around Grandma and Grandpa’s camp on Lake Superior, and, you guessed it, also aim to play a hockey game.

So, I would love to receive a note under the Christmas tree indicating the lakes are frozen and the neighbourhood rink is ready!

  442. louise holisek Says:

i would love to get a 200.00dollar gift card so my daughter and granchildren could travel in comfort to my other daughters home.

  443. D. Buckell Says:

Love VIA, a trip to Montreal or Vancouver would be great….

  445. Teresa Says:

After his chemo is finished, I want my husbands cancer to be gone forever…I also want my third grandchild born 100% healthy with no disabilities, since the other 2 children both have disabilities. (The First Baby of the Year…would be nice.) I know these are more like prays for the New Year, so under my tree a return train trip from Vancouver to Nova Scotia would be fantastic.

  446. Manal Jaber Says:

    ~All I want for Christmas ~
I’ve always wished to take a train trip across Canada so that I can see the beautiful view that everyone talks about, so 200$ would definitly help in making my wish come true!

  447. Suha Says:

All I want for Xmas is to visit my sister in Montreal! I havent seen her for a very long time now.

  448. Paula Says:

All I want for Christmas is to have my fiance come here for Christmas and spend it with my mom and myself. He doesn’t get much time off for the holidays but it would be really wonderful to have him here. We haven’t seen each other since the summer and its really hard to be so far apart from the one that you love. That would be the greatest gift I could receive. He lives in the U.S so its been hard at times to have a long distance relationship.

  449. Patti Says:

I would love to send my daughter on a trip to see all her university friends! They all graduated last spring in the “worst year to graduate ever” and are all over southern Ontario trying to find jobs and struggle through grad school and she is stuck living with her parents (horror!) in Sudbury(ewwww!)doing contract work (at least it’s in her field!) and working at the local grocery store (OMG!)so she can save money for law school. A trip away would really make her Christmas!

  450. Diane Says:

I’m retiring soon and would love to travel with my husband. He doesn’t highway drive so it is left up to me to drive us long distances. I would love to take a train trip either east or west. I wouldn’t care what direction we go. Whenever I see a VIA rail go by, I wonder where it is going and wish I was on it.

  451. Linda Says:

I’d like to get all my grandkids together for Christmas.

  452. Cathy Morgan Says:

A wonderful gift would be to gather the whole family together for some warm and fuzzy times. As we are a group that strives for perfection in both our careers and personal lives, a good old fashioned Christmas would be just what the Doctor ordered.

  453. greg byfield Says:

A new set of golf clubs

  454. Barb Says:

Echoing so many of the other comments, I don’t need anything material under the tree. I wish for a safe trip to Thunder Bay to spend Christmas with extended family. I would use the Via Certificate to bring a friend, who recently lost her mom, to Montreal for a much needed girlfriend’s visit.

  455. Tenzin Ling Says:

I like others to share their happiness with me. So cards describing a few happy events or moments in the past year would be wonderful. For those who can afford some cash, I like to have gift cards, Canadian Tire, Walmart or VIA.

  456. Holly Says:

My holiday wish is a little complicated and simple at the same time. I wish that I could have a proposal. But I know that my darling has too much pride to ask such a thing while job-hunting, and finding work right now is pretty tough. So I guess my wish is actually that he would find a job so that we can get on with our lives.

  457. Liam Says:

Clothing was always cliche, but nowadays, that’s what I want. Merino wool stuff especially. I’d love to unwrap a pair of merino wool socks. haha. sounds silly.

  458. Robin Says:

All I want for Christmas is some cheerful time to spend with my girlfriend.

  459. Marie Says:

Being a 22 year old; all i really want for Christmas to be quite frank is money!! Its not very complicated, no wrapping necesary. (It also helps pay the cost of all the gifts i had had to buy for my enormous family). Im in a long distance relationship (ottawa – vancouver) so any money left over would mean more time with my honey (travel expenses are quite high!)

  460. Florence Best Says:

My Australian cousins went by VIA rail from Jasper to Prince Rupert and loved it. That’s what I want for Christmas

    Really badly!!

    Or a trip to Italy.

  466. Violet Says:

I would love to see a new pair of memory foam slippers under my tree. Having had over 20 foot operations, my feet really need the extra cushioning.

  467. Christina Traynor Says:

I live in Ottawa & my daughter lives in Vancouver. Flying is faster, but I love to travel by train (thank you, VIA Rail) and would prefer to travel on the “Canadian”. This country is so vast and the train enables you to have an incomparable experience. It’s like a cruise ship on land. Meeting people from other parts of Canada and abroad, and listening to their travel and life stories, is a bonus! The $200 credit would be much appreciated towards the VIA Rail fare from Ottawa.

  468. Caroline Morin Says:

    I’d love an iPhone!

  469. karen Says:

I would really like some good nite sleeps. My poor back aches so, and I sure could use a good mattress to sleep on.
I own a good mattress, the problem is my daughter doesn’t.
We will be spending the hoildays once again at her home.

  470. Caroline Moustache Says:

The special gift I would like to find under the tree is my little sister. I would love for her to visit.

  471. Adina Helmer Says:

I would love a subscription to the new Mike Holmes magazine!

  472. Aurora Feletti Says:

All I want for Christmas is donations to charity or similar actions like buying mosquito nets for malaria or living gift donations through Ten Thousand Villages, etc. I have a lot more than most in this country and in the world, I really don’t need or want anything else. Anything I do get that I won’t use or don’t need (which is pretty much everything), I donate to local shelters or thrift stores. Love is all I need for Christmas. Blessings!

  473. Ismat Jahan Says:

All I want for Christmas is to be able to spend a weekend away with my lovely sisters and catch up on some quality time! We are always so busy with everything and don’t get to really spend a lot of time together, and it doesn’t help that we live in different cities.

  474. Lisa DeJong Says:

All I want for Christmas is to spend time with my family. They are amazing people with huge hearts. I would not be who I am today without them and for that I am incredibly thankful. I am so lucky to have all the love I do in my life.

All I want for Christmas is the chance to spend some time with my family in Israel.

  477. Glenn Says:

The best things in life aren’t things.

Having said that, finding Toronto to Montreal round trip VIA 1 tickets under the tree would be a very pleasant surprise..

  478. Shawn Powell Says:

She made Christmas come alive for us! My father’s sister and our favorite aunt lived with us for a large part of our youth and remains an important part of our lives. Attending college here and later working she stayed in Ontario for about ten years. She has however, returned to Regina, Saskatchewan where she grew up and we don’t often get to see her. Her sense of fun is something I miss very much and would love to surprise her with a visit……by train of course!

  479. still hopeful Says:

What I want for Christmas doesn’t really go under a tree. It’s not that it’s too big physically, like a big screen TV, but it often seems too big in other ways. I’ve been waiting for a surgery here in Ontario for two and a half years and my life is on hold as I wait. I want to pursue graduate studies and get on with my career and life, but I’m left unable to do anything with the pain. We’re looking to go out of province for the surgery now, and I’m still hopeful an answer will come as my holiday present. While Vivian and VIA can’t help with this, a $200 travel credit would certainly help me get to my surgical destination when I finally get the call.

  480. Tammy Says:

I am hoping to find under the tree my family braclet with my kids names and birthstones on it. My husband said I would be getting it once we where done having children. I just gave birth to our fourth child and last. Our children are ages Son 10, daughter 4, son 2 and daughter 40 days. So we have our hands full and our hearts full of love. Our family is finally complete.
Besides mmaterial items I just love watching my childrens faces glow as they open their presents on xmas day. That is the true gift because xmas is all about fmaily and making memorys that they can pass on to their families when they get older.

  481. Patrick Descoteaux Says:

All I want for Christmas would be a Pair of Via 1 Tickeys to either Ottawa or Quebec City in February, for my 2nd wedding anniversary, but by the time I pay Rent, Bills, & Food, I barely get the chance to travel.

When I do Travel, I always trave in Via 1 & my wife & I LOVE the RENAISSANCE Train, usually Train#52 or Train#66 going to Montreal & Train #67 coming to Toronto, for me, that would make for a memorable Christmas.

  482. Annie Weir Says:

I would be thrilled to see a donation on my behalf to SOS Children’s Villages – they build and staff homes for children left homeless by disease and war in Africa. It would truly put the bells on my Christmas, to know I’m sharing good fortune with others in need.

  483. Jenn Says:

Christmas is an amazing time of year, all the lights, smells everything that reminds you why it truly is the most magical time of year. I don’t have a long list of things I want this Christmas, I just love spending time with the family & friends, reminiscing of those Christmas passed, the snow & cold weather. I just love Christmas because you get to see those family members you almost never have the opportunity of seeing due to the busy lives we live. However if I had to say one thing I would want for Christmas, it would be a trip to Mont-Saint-Anne to go Snowboarding with my friends for a few days. Just getting out of the big city with some close friends would be the ultimate gift for me. Merry Christmas & Happy New Years to all!!

  484. Heather Rosen Says:

This holiday season has been challenging for me and my family, as I haven’t had much work over the past few months. The special gift I’d love to get this year is a gift certificate to a wonderful restaurant, C5, at the Royal Ontario Museum. It’s considered one of the top 10 restaurants in Toronto. The food is fabulous and I would love to splurge on a special meal there to say good-bye to this decade and ring in the new year with a smile and a happy, full belly!:)

  485. Alex Lane Says:

I’ve always wanted to take my family on a trip on VIA somewhere. $200 would certainly help out!

  486. Darlene Forrest Says:

I would love to travel by train. Very safe and you get to see things most people don’t!

  487. Julie Plourde Says:

I would like to see under the tree a airplane ticket to go to Disney with my kids.

  488. Elizabeth Peterson Says:

I would love to see travel with VIA under the tree so I could visit family members that I have not seen in a long time

  489. Geo Says:

All I want is a White Christmas; My two front teeth (yup, I want a dentist to make my two front teeth look spectacular!)and Two VIA tickets west to Vancouver to see my son. Greedy aren’t I? Forget what I just asked for. If you are really scratching your head for a gift to go under the Christmas Tree just make it a donation card to a favourite charity. Happy Hollidays with VIA!

  490. Cat Says:

I have moved away from home this year, so I am already making part of my wish come true by taking the train home for the holidays.

However, I don’t see my sister far often enough anymore, and I would love some travel credits under my tree so I can take her on a vacation to New York City before she starts school in March and has even less time to visit!

  491. Christine Kent Says:

I want to go to Montreal. I used to live there. There are so many store to shop, restaurants to eat in, sights to see etc.

  492. Julie LaPointe Says:

All I want for Christmas is the unquestioning joy, excitement and love it brought to me as a child when my family still had a home to go back to.

  493. Flo Perna Says:

Coming from another country, I have been fortunate to live in a wonderful country like Canada. It’s a very diverse & safe country & I find most people are nice & my wish is for ALL OF US TO GET ALONG,WORLD PEACE & UNDERSTANDING, BRING OUR CANADIAN & US SOLDIERS HOME, FROM AFGHNISTAN, IRAQ & WHEREEVER ELSE THEY ARE.(I WISH THERE WILL BE NO WAR ( I KNOW THIS IS UNREALISTIC) IF WE TOLERATE ONE ANOTHER THIS WORLD WILL BE A BETTER PLACE.

  494. Sara Lipson Says:

My wish for Christmas this year, as for every year, is to be able to take the train whenever I travel in Canada. I want to see the Calgary Tower rising over the prairies from inside the Park Car, be rocked by the wind crossing the Canso Causeway in a classic stainless steel carriage, traverse the barrens of Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula while reading a good book in the lounge car, and see the sun rising over the rolling surf on the west coast of Vancouver Island while I slowly wake.

  495. Rosine Ryan-Lewis Says:

Dear Via Rail Santa: My wish for Christmas this year is to have my two older sisters from Manitoba travel out to BC to visit me. One of them is 74 years old, on a limited budget, and has ailments. I BELIEVE the Via trip, with all its amenities, lovely food, courteous and friendly staff, would be an everlasting memory to the both of them. It has been 8 years since I have been on a Via excursion, so I would accompany my sisters back to Manitoba and relive my last Via memories.

  496. SL Klassen Says:

All I want for Christmas this year is something our family, including my 3-year-old daughter, prays for daily – that a good friend and a cousin stay safe during their posting in Afghanistan. I suspect that there are a lot other families asking for much the same thing this year, and I hope we all get it.

If someone were looking for something to actually wrap up, though, the soundtrack to “The Boat that Rocked”, and some other CDs, would be wonderful.

  497. Paulina Masson Says:

I want a Time Capsule from Apple.
    :)
And to see all my family together on Christmas.

  498. Kim Says:

I would love to recreate my honeymoon which was spent moving from California( where I was working) to London in a Toyota hatchback. We slept in it, ate in it and all with our dog. One memorable night was spent sleeping under the Rockies in Glacier National Park. I’d love to see them from the Panorama dome car.

  499. Renae Koiter Says:

I’d like to take my Aussie boyfriend to Ottawa’s Winterlude to show him the wonders of winter! Unfortunately I am a student and can’t afford to go and he can’t afford it either having been in Canada only a short time. I would LOVE to see 2 train tickets and a paid hotel stay for a weekend in Ottawa under the tree!

  500. Bill Says:

Could keep checking back all day to try to post as the “500th” as staring at this monitor seems a bit much but instead will do it now. My wife and I will be celebrating the first Christmas in 30 years without our two sons crossing oceans/datelines to be here. They will be starting their own Christmas traditions just as we did many years ago. One son, in England, will be with his fiancée and her family. The other, teaching in South Korea where only Christmas Day is a holiday I suspect will celebrate with a dinner with his fellow ex pat ESL teachers and their South Korean friends.
Will we miss them?– yes. Do we really wish they could be here?–yes. Will we be happy for them?–yes. Our Christmas wish for them?–that they have a loving and memorable “first” Christmas.

  501. martin Says:

For Christmas, I would like a 2 way first class via rail ticket to go home and see my family. I see them 2-3 times a year and this year I hope to spend a nice long week with them. I also would like a gift certificate from Club Monoco!

It would be wonderful if I won the $200 voucher as I would give it to my mother and father-in law to enjoy a beautiful train trip on VIA trains to a wonderful destination of their choice as they celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

This would be a lovely trip and something memorable for them to enjoy while he is still healthy and able to do so.

I hope that God keeps my father-in-law here for several more years as family is so important to me.

I lost both of my parents at a young age and though they are my in-laws they have been my mom and dad for over 22 years loyally and I don’t know what I would have done without them and my wonderful husband.

This is my wish this holiday season. Spending time with friends and family is what I believe Christmas is all about.

  534. Kathy Lloy Says:

    Dear Santa,
I fear,in a moment of frustration, accidently, you may have deleted my wishlist. Therefore, I would like to humbly re-submit it.
As you recall, way back in 1973,when I was twenty-something,a friend & I drove accross Canada from Halifax to Vancouver. The trip took 2 months and gave me the memories of a lifetime,(well at least for 35 years). Words can’t adaquately describe the feelings of seeing the beauty of MY Canada and meeting so many great, culturally diverse Canadians.
Remember,in 1974 I flew to Vancouver and lived there for one year and then for my return trip home,I took the train from Vancouver, through the Rockies,to Calgary. The train trip was awe inspiring, such a different trip than the one I took through the Rockies by car in ‘73.
    Here’s the wish part again:
I would love to make that train trip again, only this time take the train ALL the way from Vancouver to Halifax. Oh,and this time,as you know, I now have a husband to take with me.
Santa, you must know how much and how long I’ve wished for this trip and perhaps this is the year you feel I’ve been good enough to finally receive it.
I know what you’re thinking Santa…I should settle for the less expensive online version of the trip. BUT, I need some new, updated memories to get me through the next 35 years.
Truthfully Santa, have I been that bad???
I really, really hope that a VIA gift card will be under my tree THIS YEAR,NOT a lump of coal with a website address, again!
    Your Humble Wisher
    Kathy

  538. Mark Wood Says:

All I want under the Christmas tree this year is my fiancee. I miss her so much. Having her here for Christmas day would be the best thing ever.

  539. Karen Mayer Says:

Last year I made a ‘bucket list’. I amend it periodically. On my bucket list, was to take the train across Canada to Vancouver, through the Rocky Mountains. I did it this summer and it was a wonderful, memorable trip. I went by myself and thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was so good, I would like to do it again – but this time to bring my family!!

  540. Andrew Kaszowski Says:

I would love a piano under the tree. I doubt it would fit, but I’m sure Santa could find a way.

My parents had a beautiful antique piano in their living room that I learned to play on, and it was right beside the Christmas tree. When I was little I’d plug in the Christmas tree and its lights were so bright that I could read the notes of my favourite Christmas carols.

I loved playing the carols; but when my mom heard me playing one in June she put a yearly time limit in effect: I wasn’t allowed to play them before December or after the New Year.

This year was my first in my own house; with my own Christmas tree. It’d be very special to play carols beside my own tree.

  541. Julie Says:

New fluffy towels for the bathroom! There is nothing better than starting your day with a clean, fresh, new towel. Simple pleasures. :-)

  542. vivian is virtual Says:

All I want for Christmas is to be at at home with my family.
I was trying really hard to go home for Christmas this year but it is not going to
happen due to lack of funds. So this will be my first Christmas away from home. I feel really awful for not going up because my family really wanted me to go up but they understand completely for my reasons. It would be nice to go up and surprise my family with my arrival and try to cheer everyone up because there has been a lot going on within the past year. That would be the great Christmas gift for them.

  545. Lawrene Denkers Says:

All I want for Christmas is a pair of socks. Doesn’t everyone want socks? Of course they do.

  547. BFRENCH Says:

All I want for Christmas is travel tickets so I can visit loved ones who live far away.

  548. Anne Lamarche Says:

    Dear Santa:
All I want for Christmas is my family to be together. My daughter can’t be home this year as she doesn’t have the funds for a train ticket. I am unable to help her to come home as I have been travelling so much for medical reasons. It has really taken a toll on all of us this year emotional and financial. This will be our first Christmas not together as a family. If I won this contest it would be the greatest gift I could ever get as I would be able to bring my daughter home to be with her family and that is the greatest gift of all…

  549. Jen Says:

What I love to see wrapped up under the tree is the gift of health for my family. My mother is battling cancer and I would love to be able to continue to have our family celebrating together for Christmas!

  550. Donny Says:

As we get older we appreciate the spirit and meaning of Christmas, we enjoy watching our children experience it for the first time, just as much as we enjoy seeing our parents have great smile on their face to have their family all under one roof. There is no substitute for it, and there is no other time of year that fosters that much lover and togetherness.

  551. Linda Fast Says:

All I want for Christmas is a round trip ticket for my Mother and I to visit my son in Stratford Ontario this winter.

  552. Michael Says:

Of course, I’d love to receive world peace and happiness and global eradication of poverty for Christmas!

Or, how about a new accordion?

  553. Julie Says:

All I want for christmas is my health and my family health. Yes present would be great but with all the new babies and the wedding coming up I just want everyone to be happy and healthly.

But if I had to choose one thing .. I am really hoping for that sparkly ring from my BF of 7years. :) Than the 200$ voucher would come in handy as we could go and visit my parents and show them my ring .. if I got it .. *fingers crossed*

  554. 10r4 Says:

All I want for Christmas is my family all together :)

  555. Cass Says:

All I want for Christmas is for my family and friends to have a healthy-er year than 2009, this economical recession to end and for more jobs to be available, for sustainability within all families so that they can also be healthy and less worried about money & food.
I wish the best for all.
Selfish greed aside, cause 2009 has been a great year for me – where I’ve succeeded in my third year at university, I’ve travelled west, and I’ve found lifelong friends – and it’s been hard with much illness within my family. Student life is expensive enough, but I’ve spent every penny I’ve earned this year enjoying myself – and visiting the parents as much as I can. So, I wish everyone else to have great experiences in 2010 & for the health of their families (and of my own).

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

  556. Bill Kigar Says:

All I want for Christmas is for my daughter to come home a few times from Windsor this year>

  557. kmfhee Says:

I would love a Wii – A fun way for the family to spend time together!

  558. Jolene Says:

This year I would LOVE some camping gear!!
I want to be dropped off in the middle of nowhere with a kayak to paddle and camp for a few days before floating into a familiar city and spending a night on the town. What a combination!

  559. Cameron Says:

I like thick academic books, mostly history. I’d also like my friends to be near so we can debate the finer points of those books!
