I love to travel but I don’t get to do it often. For all of my life, I’ve wanted to go to England, and this year I finally did, thanks to my youngest sister, who bought my ticket. North Yorkshire, where I gallivanted and shopped and took tea and had the most fabulous time, is where I could see myself living for the rest of my life. But my hubby has no desire to move out of province, let alone the country!
Which is okay—so long as I can visit often. He knows how badly I want to visit England again. Another of my sisters lives there, and I would love to see her again next year so we can log even more miles than we did this time around across the English moors and dales.
I’ve been squirreling away a bit of money every freelance check I get (in a secret drawer in my rolltop desk!), but—and here comes the answer to your question—this Christmas, I’d love to find under the tree travel money to put toward my ticket, in addition to him saying he’s going to come with me!
If not, and we win this contest, we can travel together somewhere fun in Canada, say to Montreal! After 8 years, we still haven’t had a honeymoon…

As much as I would love to put $200 toward a wonderful trip across Canada, there is somewhere else I need to go more.
I need to go home!
I only go home (to my mother’s house) a couple of times a year, on holidays. The trip home, is so expensive, that I hardly have the money to do it.
I am scared that I may not even make it home for Christmas this year..
So, all I want for Christmas, is to go home, and spend it with my family!

Life has been great for me. Although I am a student, I have a confortable appartement that I share with my lover, great friends and a priceless family. I ma be earning very low wages, my life is full of love and happiness.
All I wish for Christmas, is for all to have a heart full of love and hapiness ! I know people, that’S kind of cheezy, but material presents end up in the garbage most of the time, family and friends don’t!

I love these contests! Ok..under my Christmas tree…mmm Well I’ve given this much thought as I really have everything I need so there is nothing I really need. My thoughts always go to those less fortunate. But thinking about my future and retirement in the near future, I have decided to take up golf. What I would like to see under my tree is a Sun Mountain V2 golf cart in nice shiny silver! I’ve joined the ladies league for next season and this would look great holding my clubs and bag as I go around the course!

A trip to new Brunswick,sackville is where i want to return to. Went last year for my son;s university graduation and fell in love with the town, the people and the province. I am from ontario but Sackville New Brunswick is in my heart! Like the famous song, I left my heart in San Francisco, I left mine in Sackville!

actually, the gift isn’t under the tree – its all around it! My wife and two girls and two boys will all be together around the tree sharing laughs and good times with each other and that is why I look forward to the holidays. Sure, we’ll exchange presents, (and I’m kinda hoping for some nice dressy work clothes….) but the most important special gift doesn’t come in a box…

Ever since I’ve been little I have had a really hard time thinking of what I want for Christmas. Honestly, all I want for Christmas is to go home and see my family. I am a fourth year university student and I’ve gotta say.. money is tight. I live far away too so I rarely get to go home and visit. I’m so excited to walk in the door and see the smile on my Mom’s face. Too bad you can’t put that under a Christmas tree haha! All I want for Christmas is my Mommy.

I have more than enough stuff and am happy to forego gifts from friends and family throughout the year and at Christmas. If, however, travel or spa vouchers are under the tree, I’d accept those gratefully. The Rockies, Kilimanjaro and the Alps are three destinations, and any spa resort would suit! Thanks for asking!! All I want for Christmas is for my 90 year old father to come for a visit soon. We live in Quebec and he’s near Toronto.
We visited him, but with working we could only stay 1 night. I want him to take the train but…he thinks he can still drive and won’t come in Winter. Hope to convince hime with a via travel card.

What I really want for Christmas is for my brother to propose to his girlfriend! But since I think that isn’t happening, I’ll say that what I really want is my whole family together- along with my boyfriend and my brother’s girlfriend- for our annual Christmas party. Rather than under my tree – I will comment on what I wish to have around my tree… I hope to have all of my family around our tree this season. I have come to know that NOTHING is more important than
the time we share together with friends and family… VIA RAIL is one of the biggest supports we rely on during the winter holidays to assure us that we will get together

I just had a mammogram that has to be followed up by another test. I just want to have good health for christmas and into the New Year. My daughter is expecting her 2nd child in March. Want to be able to hold that new baby in Toronto.

This summer, my boyfriend and I were going to take the train through the Mountains. We thought it would be romantic to enjoy the scenery and explore Canada together. As the time approached, we realized that we wouldn’t be able to do this if we wanted to pay for school in the fall.
I would love to have my tuition paid off for Christmas so that maybe next summer we can take that trip

I told my older brother I’d love a week off and a plane/train ticket home. I moved in September to the east coast to start a new job. The hours and stress have been way more than expected, and the pay way less, after deductions. I missed my best friend’s wedding at Thanksgiving due to lack of time/funds, nor could I come back when my uncle died in September. I’m burning out and would love to get away and just not think about it for awhile. I miss home.

What I would really like for christmas, is to spend time with my family. with being away from home for the first time at university, I never really realized how much I miss them and how much they mean to me. if I can just chat and have happy hour around the fire with my parents and my two brothers just like old times I will be beyond happy. I am in my last year at University in Toronto and have had to take on 36 credits in order to graduate this year, and am doing volunteer experience in Gr.5 class to gets hours for Masters programs that I applied for. Needless to say, I am in that ‘broke-student’ stage and have been relying on our common-room couch as my source of income for paying for laundry facilities. Honestly, my list for Christmas is spattered with items such as socks, laundry soap, dehumidifier (I had both H1N1 and several cases of Strep this year-Residence is so dry), and a genie in a lamp(maybe more of my essays will get done!). I am looking forward to no assignments/seeing my family (they live in Montreal/Calgary)and eating something that is not KD/white rice or Mr. Noodle.

I could definitely use a job.
I could really use some groceries.
I could desperately use a tuition-fairy.
I would LOVE more than anything to be able to go home for Christmas….
…but really, what I want, I have.
I have a boyfriend who loves me, and who would propose tomorrow if we had the time and money to have the little wedding our families would love to share with us.
I have family who love me, and who tirelessly support me in a thousand ways as I work on my masters, broke and starving again as usual, working on my ‘art’, and never suggesting I get a ‘real job’.
I have friends who love me and call to keep me close even though I’m over 2000 miles away because of school.
I have a warm apartment I love in a neighbourhood I’m getting to know, with three cats and the love of my life, and a comfortable bed to sleep in each night.
And I have enough health to enjoy all of it. <3

This year for christmas i hope to get money under my christmas tree! Being a full time student living away from home eats up all the money i make at my part time job, so this christmas id like a little money just to spend on me, and to put towards my travel fund. My boyfriend lives on the opposite side of the province, so some cash to help me buy my train ticket to go visit him at his school would be a perfect gift!

All I want for Christmas is a voucher for two roundtrip Silver & Blue First Class VIA tickets from Toronto to Vancouver valid for next summer and allows stopovers so we get to see all the Western provinces. I have a roof over my head, a terrific daughter, loving family and great friends. So I have what counts. But there are those fun things to dream about like a fancy clock radio/docking station for my nano, itunes gift card, someone to do and pay for my clothes shopping and maybe a net book. But what would really be great if we all were kinder to each other and the politicians and bureaucrats made more sustainable, socially responsible decisions.

All I want for Christmas… This is usually hard for me. I am a student and live a really wonderful life. However, I tend to wish for untangible things.. such as better grades, world peace, happiness, the answers to all of life’s questions. However, travelling has always been a passion for me and my boyfriend. We hope to travel the world and visit all of Canada and learn our history and heritage. I wish I could hug my daughter. My 11-year-old daughter moved from Manitoba to live with her father in Alberta where they have programs to meet her medical needs. I miss her so much.As a f/t student and with the other kids still living with me I’m not sure when I can afford to see her again.I know this bothers her too. I wish I could surprise her with a visit.

I think it would be nice to find a winning million dollar lottery ticket under the christmas tree come december 25th. I can’t think of a better way to change the lives of everyone in my family, along with a few close friends lives, and my own in one fell swoop. Its a long-shot i know, but at least i’ll get to spend time with all of them again this year, whether my number comes up or not.

All I want for Christmas is a chance to see some of my friends out west! Being a new graduate in this economy is tough and it has meant that many of my friends have had to move across the country for work. One of my good friends spent all of her savings to move out to Alberta for work and now she is quite homesick. It would be the best Christmas present ever if I could surprise her with a train ticket to come home and visit with all her friends and family in Toronto.

As for me…I have a very sick uncle in Kelowna. Never married, no children and no relatives closer than 3 hours away. Ontario to B.C. doesn’t seem impossible, but life is full of challenges these days. My wish for Christmas is that he has at least one family member to share the Christmas Holiday with. It doesn’t have to be me, but I love him dearly.

I love travelling. If I have all the money and time I would spend most of it on travelling. I travel not just to go someplace else but to discover, learn other people’s culture and learn something about myself as well. My brother in law is being treated for sarcoma (a difficult type of cancer to treat)at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. He must travel for radiation treatments every day for five weeks. He and all his family and friends are doing there best to stay positive about his recovery. This Christmas what I would like, would be to be able to give him the gift of joy. Even though things are difficult, it would be so nice if just for a day he could forget about his illness and enjoy Christmas.

It would be lovely to be invited out for Christmas dinner instead of being the chief cook and bottle washer every year( going on 32 of them). It would be so nice to be able to just enjoy the day from a comfy couch in front of a roaring fire and be summoned to the table when all was ready.

I love to take pictures! And i can honestly say i have the eye for it. I just know if given the chance to have a REAL camera I’d be a great photographer. So my wish is to get a beautiful digital SLR camera, hopefully a D60 and up. But they are crazy expensive. Under my tree this year i would love to see a Nikon digital SLR D60.

I’ve recently started school about four hours away from home. It is a huge pain to get home because I have to take multiple trains and buses and even then someone has to pick me up an hour from my house.Plus it gets expensive. So this VIA Rail travel credit would be wonderful for both me and my bank account. Thats what I want under my tree for Christmas, so I can visit home more often.

All I want for Christmas is that my daughter and her family have walls, and a floor, and perhaps a ceiling, a bed??? in their house (which is all torn up and under repairs)so that I can go there for a change and eat turkey and visit with my 3 grand-babies… but if they just get their laundry hooked up I’m happy to sleep on the floor!! as long as they can cook!!! OK I’d be happy with take out, who am I kidding.

Oh, would I LOVE to find a Book Publisher sitting under my tree Christmas Morn! Willing, able and ready to distribute my first book I have just completed! A prose that I wrote for my mum combined with my photography..its realllly cool! Of course the Via Rail travel credit would be amazing, then I could visit my new publisher whenever I wanted to!! I quit smoking one year ago as a Christmas present to my loved ones (and myself). Then I had to lose the weight associated with quitting! It’s been a big year! Since none of my family has seen me since,and neither my younger brother or I can afford the trip home to see everyone this year, I’d love to go visit him in New York City (much closer), so at least the two of us and our partners can spend the holidays together…
I *also* want a “bean north coffee” travel mug (because I lost mine after buying it in Whitehorse last Christmas… and it was the best travel mug EVER!) AND… I would love this book: http://www.birdbook.org/, because I’m a huge nerd

For Christmas, I wish for my ten year old daughter good health for the future. She suffers from polycystic kidney disease which affects 1 in 500 Canadians. Her kidneys are enlarged and the growing cysts, which multiply, are damaging her renal function. I wish so hard I could take the PKD away. There is no cure. I am hopeful that one day there will be a cure and a healthy girl….under my tree.

If we’re talking about a real camera, then I would greatly appreciate a replacement camera. My current one has faulty software & it would be wonderful to reinstall & save the hardware but I haven’t found that option yet. To miss out on passing moments is a shame – my nephew’s infectious giggly face, my parents lovingly kissing their grandson, my brother glancing with appreciate at his wife. Capture it now, capture it forever.

What I want most for Christmas are Via Rail gift cards. They’re at the top of the Christmas list I gave to my family. I go back and forth between Montreal and Toronto on average once every six weeks in order to visit my boyfriend who is working on contract there until the Spring of 2011. If I got nothing else for Christmas but gift cards to help out with buying the train tickets, I would be completely satisfied, because what my family would be giving me even more than the tickets would be more time with my boyfriend and that is utterly priceless.

As an avid photographer, I am always struggling to buy new gadgets to enhance my photos. This Christmas, I would love a new flash.
As a teenager, typical wishlist items are also on my list this year; new sweaters, new lululemon pants, new cell phone.
However, the main worry on my mind this year is the upcoming holidays. My boyfriend lives six hours away and the only way to see him is by train. I am heading to university next year and my parents don’t have money to send me on the trip very often. To make matters more complicated, I am taking an online course through the university he is attending… and my exam is close to christmas. I have to take a train trip up, but I have no financial plan to get that trip. This contest would provide me with that transportation. Without it, I may not be able to make the exam (and fail the course my parents paid for) and may not see my boyfriend over the holidays.

All I want for Christmas is to meet a very wealthy, handsome man, my age, who enjoyed every aspect of life to the fullest, including me and my family. Then I could ‘fix two birds with one stone’ – I would forever be happy, an be able to take care of my parents and get them 24 hour a day nursing care at home, so they wouldn’t have to be apart, one on oxygen at home, struggling, and one in complex care at Freeport hospital, paralyzed and living with a trake and breathing machine. That way when they do go to their rest, they would also be happy!!

Dear Vivian & VIA Rail,
Christmas has always been kept merry in the heart of our family. But this year is different. My dear mother who is 93 recently suffered a mild stroke. She still can travel and has tickets for herself and my daughter and grandson (her grand-daughter and great grandson are traveling with her from London, through Toronto and on to Montreal on the VIA Rail. They are traveling to Quebec to spend Christmas with my brother who lives in St. Agatha.
This year I was laid off work in January, and have just gone back to work in October so things are a little tight this year for anything but the basics. I am very grateful for my family, their love and that we can share our lives with one another. For obvious reasons, I would like to spend time to create more beautiful memories with my mother.
So, this Christmas my wish of wishes would be to find a return Via Rail Ticket from Vancouver to Montreal. This would make a dream come true. I miss them so much. Four generations of family could gather around the Christmas table, pull the dinner crackers, wear the silly hats from inside (the cracker), and look across the table from one antoher through the glow of the candlelight…and see the love reflecting back, as my mother tells the story of Yuletimes of Yesterdays.

For Christmas this year I would like a photo of all three of them standing beside the three pine trees that we planted when they where little. All I want for Christmas is a Halifax to Vancouver Island, Rocky Mountaineer Vacation. It has been an extremely long year for my husband & I. In April my 74 year old mother fractured her right hip. She spent 6 weeks in General Hospital plus 6 weeks in Rehab Hospital. Week 7 of mom’s rehab, her brother passed away. We are 5 hours away from the rest of our family.(my father had a partial right sided stroke 2 years ago). Then my husbands, 90 year old, independant mother, was in General Hospital with a possible fracture. My husband’s mother & family live near us. In June, my husband’s identical twin, had 2 strokes & he wasn’t expected to life. However, he arrived home in the fall. He was able to see his son get married. Plus becoming a grandfather. However, with a busy past year, in the end, we still have our family….together. It will still be a Joyous Christmas!

Since 2008 was a year of taking care of health issues, 2009 is shaping up to be a year of better health & learning how to cope with my new situation! Unfortunately, 2009 has also been a year of very sad year due to too many losses of loved ones.
Under the tree for Christmas 2009, I would like a new pet to keep us company, as I am indoors alot (our ‘kitten’ of 14 yrs passed), and a trip across Canada, Europe, Australia to visit relatives and friends.
I wish everyone good cheer and peace for this Holiday Season and for the New Year!

All I want for Christmas is a VIA Rail train trip to a region of Canada I have never had the pleasure of visiting before (preferably in the comfort of a ‘Sleeper Class’ which would also be a brand new, exciting experience). Travel is my ultimate pleasure in life & a welcome respite, prescription really, for the ills of normal, too often boring, frequently stressful, day-to-day life. Canada is a stunning country where a lack of warmth in winter is compensated by the sincerely warm spiritedness of its citizens. I want to experience more of our country & a gift certficiate for VIA Rail train travel would be exactly what I’d want most to see under the Christmas tree!

You’d think being a student for 4 years, would make you any less homesick..APPARENTLY this isn’t the case. Exams are approaching and I want to go home so badly; however, this year’s holiday plans will be different since I have a job here at school. I have to work Christmas eve, and Boxing Day, and therefore, have little time to spend at home with my family. I would love for a little “mandatory holiday time spent with family and friends” card from my boss, under the tree. I’m a student, away from home, with an undecorated house, and a stressful few weeks ahead of me. My boss’s wish for me to spend time with my family would mean so much to me!

‘All I want for Christmas’ is a Train Ticket to anywhere in Canada! I’m a real Railfan too.
I would love to travel to see my scattered family accross Canada. We have relatives in Surrey BC as well as in Ontario.
Train travel is always the Best way to go, leaving the driving to someone else as you enjoy the comforts and scenery along the routes.
I’ve travelled extensively within Canada, almost always by Train.

I was very fortunate this fall to visit the state of Arizona and experience the natural beauty of that state. I travelled with my husband for our 25th wedding anniversary. I have been and actually lived in western Canada for a short time and have always told my husband that he needs to see it. Espcially being Canadian, I think you should see your own country first. My husband has always said that he would love to travel by train to see our beautiful country. So for that reason, I would love to win the $200 train travel voucher. Merry Christmas everyone!

My oldest daughter has been to both the East Coast of Canada and the West Coast. I managed to visit her each time she was away. I would love to be able to go back to each of the coasts again as they are both so beautiful. We keep looking down the road towards retirement and think that it would be nice to retire on one or the other coasts. But which one?? I definitely need to check them both out again. That would be a wonderful trip. Great mother and daughter time, too!!

Christmas has always been my absolute favourite time of the year! My dream gift would be to visit Scottland & Ireland with my Mom & Dad. Ten years ago my husband and I took a VIA Rail trip with his grandmother to Truro, NS. She was 89 years old and taking her last trip back home to her birth place. At that time, we said that we would love to repeat the train trip someday. Unfortunately, she has since passed away and we were not able to repeat that trip herself but I would love to trace our steps from 10 years past and return to Truro to personally deliver heirlooms that need to be distributed to her family back in Nova Scotia.

What I would like for Christmas is to give my mother a cross-country trip from Halifax to Vancouver. Since she was a child in Barbados she always wanted to travel across Canada and see the Prairies, Rockies, and big cities. We frequently travel to Ottawa and Quebec City by bus & VIA Rail but I really want her to live her dream and see the rest of this beautiful country. I tried getting tickets to the Vancouver Olympics but sadly they were out of my price range. This trip would be wonderful for her and a great reward for overcoming a scary illness last year and it would also give her some inspiration for her art work and paintings.

29 years ago I was a nurse working in LA and with my new husband in tow moved back to SW Ontario. We drove the whole way and spent one night in Glacier Nat. Park in BC sleeping in our Toyota hatchback ( with our dog!)I’ve always wanted to return and have imagined doing so on the train with a sleeper car. Imagine seeing that magestic mountain range from the Park car with the panoramic view! My husband would happily add a side trip from La Pas to Putatawagan. Either way, a $200 gift cert. would certainly be a well spent and Christmas present

My parents are older now and they have decided to spend the winter with myself and my family(Ontario)much to our relief. My sister took the train in the fall to pick them up and drive them back here so they could use their car. I will be driving them home (Gaspe coast)and coming home on VIA. Twenty four years ago I met a man while I was at University. He was a nice enough fellow and we both wrote for the university newspaper so we became affable aquaintances. In the intervening years I had done all the things people do; worked, got married had a daughter. Unfortunatley my husband passed away in 2004 from cancer. Life carried on. In March 2008 I received a facebook message from my former classmate. We chatted and decided to meet up for drinks the next time he was in town. Things went so well that we have been seeing each other for over a year now. The down side to this wonderful and growing relationship is that he lives in Ottawa and I live in Burlington. Neither of us has the means to travel as often as we would like so visits are a precious commodity. Nothing would make me happier than to be able to visit him more often. Last Christmas my family gave me Via rail gift certificates and I put them to good use by travelling to Quebec with my sweetheart. A gift that allowed me to do that again would be the one gift under the tree that made me jump up and down and squeal with delight.

Although I would be happy travelling in Canada on the bus (or by car), the train is my preferred method. I love being able to walk around and stop in different cars (dining room, lounge, dome car etc.). So what I would like to find under a tree would be travel passes or tickets!

As a single mom I always get fantastic arts and crafts from my nine year old daughter and my sisters and parents always treat me at Christmas to something special.This year I am being practical…I would love a new blush/bronzer and a new mascara. Something i use everyday but don’t necessarily want to spend big bucks on. If I won this $200 travel credit, I’d take my daughter to Carnaval in Quebec City. Something we have always wanted to do…but haven’t yet done due to the driving conditions getting there from Toronto. What a trip that would be! Thanks.

For Christmas this year I have asked for my parents to not buy me presents but instead but the money towards helping me to pay for a surgery that my dog and cat both need. Seeing as I am in school and only work part time I will not be able to afford their surgeries without some help. Since all of my money will be spent on this winning the $200 credit would help me to visit my boyfriend who lives two hours away, that I will not be able to see unless I can pay for travel. I have lived between BC and Nova Scotia since I was Six years old. With a parent on either coast I have made the trip many times. I now live in Vancouver and my mom still lives in Dartmouth NS. I often go a year or two between visits due to the cost of travel and being a student. It is coming up on three years now since I have been home to visit the longest we have been apart yet. I would love it if my mom could come to me this year and meet my Boyfriend of two years and see what my life is like here in BC. This is the first year since I was 14 that I haven’t really had a job. Since I am in school working on 2 law degrees, I don’t have time to work and was denied OSAP. I still have a lot of bills and expenses though. So what I really want is just some money so I can pay my bills and a bit extra so I could treat myself every once in awhile to something I want rather than something I need.

I like Christmas because knowing that there’s one day in the year where no matter what it is, there’s so many smiles, and those little few gifts I receive from people I love and every year it helps me treasure the day even more. If there’s one wish I would love to have fulfilled is if on a georgous winter morning, having light snowflakes falling and seeing the sunrise, then having my boyfriend propose to me in front of my family this year since it’s his first time coming on the VIA Rail with me to Saskatchewan for Christmas. What an incredible day that would be!

We just got back from taking the Ocean overnight train that runs from Montreal to Halifax, although we got on in Drummondville and off in Moncton. and drove to PEI to see family. The Renaissance train is gorgeous and comfortable. I would do this again soon especially if I won the $200.

All I want for Christmas is a Paint Stick for our car in case we get any rock chips. Our only car was parked on a street and got hit. Nobody was in it, thank goodness! The damage to the car was more than it was worth; so the insurance company wrote it off. We spent more money than we received from the insurance company in order to get a reliable car. The salesman wouldn’t even throw in a 14.00 Paint Stick. If the Paint stick isn’t in stock then I’d like one of my favorite Christmas treats, which is a box of After Eights.

Though not Canadian, I am very much in love with your exceptional country. I live near BC and travel there often and have made 2 transcontinental trips fr Vancouver to Montreal. My family are all deceased and this will be my first Christmas

Every year my family makes a two-day from Montreal to Thunder Bay to spend the holidays with my Mom’s side of the family. Much of our time is spent playing hockey on the outdoor rinks. Every afternoon and night in town we join with the locals for a game of shinny at Wayland, the neighbourhood rink. At the Boxing Day Party at my cousin’s camp on Oliver Lake the annual intergenerational hockey game lasts for hours. We also spend a day traipsing around Grandma and Grandpa’s camp on Lake Superior, and, you guessed it, also aim to play a hockey game.
So, I would love to receive a note under the Christmas tree indicating the lakes are frozen and the neighbourhood rink is ready!

After his chemo is finished, I want my husbands cancer to be gone forever…I also want my third grandchild born 100% healthy with no disabilities, since the other 2 children both have disabilities. They all graduated last spring in the “worst year to graduate ever” and are all over southern Ontario trying to find jobs and struggle through grad school and she is stuck living with her parents (horror!) in Sudbury(ewwww!)doing contract work (at least it’s in her field!) and working at the local grocery store (OMG!)so she can save money for law school. Being a 22 year old; all i really want for Christmas to be quite frank is money!! Its not very complicated, no wrapping necesary. (It also helps pay the cost of all the gifts i had had to buy for my enormous family). I live in Ottawa & my daughter lives in Vancouver. Flying is faster, but I love to travel by train (thank you, VIA Rail) and would prefer to travel on the “Canadian”. This country is so vast and the train enables you to have an incomparable experience. It’s like a cruise ship on land. Meeting people from other parts of Canada and abroad, and listening to their travel and life stories, is a bonus! The $200 credit would be much appreciated towards the VIA Rail fare from Ottawa.

All I want for Christmas is donations to charity or similar actions like buying mosquito nets for malaria or living gift donations through Ten Thousand Villages, etc. I have a lot more than most in this country and in the world, I really don’t need or want anything else. Anything I do get that I won’t use or don’t need (which is pretty much everything), I donate to local shelters or thrift stores. Love is all I need for Christmas. Blessings!

She made Christmas come alive for us! My father’s sister and our favorite aunt lived with us for a large part of our youth and remains an important part of our lives. Attending college here and later working she stayed in Ontario for about ten years. She has however, returned to Regina, Saskatchewan where she grew up and we don’t often get to see her. Her sense of fun is something I miss very much and would love to surprise her with a visit……by train of course!

What I want for Christmas doesn’t really go under a tree. It’s not that it’s too big physically, like a big screen TV, but it often seems too big in other ways. I’ve been waiting for a surgery here in Ontario for two and a half years and my life is on hold as I wait. I want to pursue graduate studies and get on with my career and life, but I’m left unable to do anything with the pain. We’re looking to go out of province for the surgery now, and I’m still hopeful an answer will come as my holiday present. While Vivian and VIA can’t help with this, a $200 travel credit would certainly help me get to my surgical destination when I finally get the call.

I am hoping to find under the tree my family braclet with my kids names and birthstones on it. My husband said I would be getting it once we where done having children. I just gave birth to our fourth child and last. Our children are ages Son 10, daughter 4, son 2 and daughter 40 days. So we have our hands full and our hearts full of love. Our family is finally complete.
Besides mmaterial items I just love watching my childrens faces glow as they open their presents on xmas day. That is the true gift because xmas is all about fmaily and making memorys that they can pass on to their families when they get older.

All I want for Christmas would be a Pair of Via 1 Tickeys to either Ottawa or Quebec City in February, for my 2nd wedding anniversary, but by the time I pay Rent, Bills, & Food, I barely get the chance to travel.
When I do Travel, I always trave in Via 1 & my wife & I LOVE the RENAISSANCE Train, usually Train#52 or Train#66 going to Montreal & Train #67 coming to Toronto, for me, that would make for a memorable Christmas.

Christmas is an amazing time of year, all the lights, smells everything that reminds you why it truly is the most magical time of year. I don’t have a long list of things I want this Christmas, I just love spending time with the family & friends, reminiscing of those Christmas passed, the snow & cold weather. I just love Christmas because you get to see those family members you almost never have the opportunity of seeing due to the busy lives we live. However if I had to say one thing I would want for Christmas, it would be a trip to Mont-Saint-Anne to go Snowboarding with my friends for a few days. Just getting out of the big city with some close friends would be the ultimate gift for me. Merry Christmas & Happy New Years to all!!

This holiday season has been challenging for me and my family, as I haven’t had much work over the past few months. The special gift I’d love to get this year is a gift certificate to a wonderful restaurant, C5, at the Royal Ontario Museum. It’s considered one of the top 10 restaurants in Toronto. The food is fabulous and I would love to splurge on a special meal there to say good-bye to this decade and ring in the new year with a smile and a happy, full belly!:)

My wish for Christmas this year, as for every year, is to be able to take the train whenever I travel in Canada. I want to see the Calgary Tower rising over the prairies from inside the Park Car, be rocked by the wind crossing the Canso Causeway in a classic stainless steel carriage, traverse the barrens of Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula while reading a good book in the lounge car, and see the sun rising over the rolling surf on the west coast of Vancouver Island while I slowly wake.

Dear Via Rail Santa: My wish for Christmas this year is to have my two older sisters from Manitoba travel out to BC to visit me. One of them is 74 years old, on a limited budget, and has ailments. I BELIEVE the Via trip, with all its amenities, lovely food, courteous and friendly staff, would be an everlasting memory to the both of them. It has been 8 years since I have been on a Via excursion, so I would accompany my sisters back to Manitoba and relive my last Via memories.

I would love to recreate my honeymoon which was spent moving from California( where I was working) to London in a Toyota hatchback. We slept in it, ate in it and all with our dog. One memorable night was spent sleeping under the Rockies in Glacier National Park. I’d love to see them from the Panorama dome car.

Could keep checking back all day to try to post as the “500th” as staring at this monitor seems a bit much but instead will do it now. My wife and I will be celebrating the first Christmas in 30 years without our two sons crossing oceans/datelines to be here. They will be starting their own Christmas traditions just as we did many years ago. One son, in England, will be with his fiancée and her family. The other, teaching in South Korea where only Christmas Day is a holiday I suspect will celebrate with a dinner with his fellow ex pat ESL teachers and their South Korean friends.
Will we miss them?– yes. Do we really wish they could be here?–yes. Will we be happy for them?–yes. Our Christmas wish for them?–that they have a loving and memorable “first” Christmas.

All I want for Christmas this year Vivian is for my father-in-law who is battling cancer to stay healthy and in remission for many more years to come.
It would be wonderful if I won the $200 voucher as I would give it to my mother and father-in law to enjoy a beautiful train trip on VIA trains to a wonderful destination of their choice as they celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
This would be a lovely trip and something memorable for them to enjoy while he is still healthy and able to do so.
I hope that God keeps my father-in-law here for several more years as family is so important to me.
I lost both of my parents at a young age and though they are my in-laws they have been my mom and dad for over 22 years loyally and I don’t know what I would have done without them and my wonderful husband.
This is my wish this holiday season. Spending time with friends and family is what I believe Christmas is all about.

Dear Santa,
I fear,in a moment of frustration,accidently, you may have deleted my wishlist. Therefore, I would like to humbly re-submit it.
As you recall, way back in 1973,when I was twenty-something,a friend & I drove accross Canada from Halifax to Vancouver.The trip took 2 months and gave me the memories of a lifetime,(well at least for 35 years). Words can’t adaquately describe the feelings of seeing the beauty of MY Canada and meeting so many great,culturally diverse Canadians.
Remember,in 1974 I flew to Vancouver and lived there for one year and then for my return trip home,I took the train from Vancouver,through the Rockies,to Calgary. The train trip was awe inspiring,such a different trip than the one I took through the Rockies by car in ‘73.
Here’s the wish part again:
I would love to make that train trip again,only this time take the train ALL the way from Vancouver to Halifax. Oh,and this time,as you know, I now have a husband to take with me.
Santa,you must know how much and how long I’ve wished for this trip and perhaps this is the year you feel I’ve been good enough to finally receive it.
I know what you’re thinking Santa…I should settle for the less expensive online version of the trip. BUT, I need some new,updated memories to get me through the next 35 years.

Last year I made a ‘bucket list’. I amend it periodically. On my bucket list, was to take the train across Canada to Vancouver, through the Rocky Mountains. I did it this summer and it was a wonderful, memorable trip. I went by myself and thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was so good, I would like to do it again – but this time to bring my family!!

I would love a piano under the tree. I doubt it would fit, but I’m sure Santa could find a way.
My parents had a beautiful antique piano in their living room that I learned to play on, and it was right beside the Christmas tree. When I was little I’d plug in the Christmas tree and its lights were so bright that I could read the notes of my favourite Christmas carols.
I loved playing the carols; but when my mom heard me playing one in June she put a yearly time limit in effect: I wasn’t allowed to play them before December or after the New Year.
This year was my first in my own house; with my own Christmas tree. It’d be very special to play carols beside my own tree.

What I’ve loved the most about the entries so far is — the overwhelming wish to be together with loved ones during this important time of year.

All I want for Christmas is to be at at home with my family.
I was trying really hard to go home for Christmas this year but it is not going to
happen due to lack of funds. So this will be my first Christmas away from home. I feel really awful for not going up because my family really wanted me to go up but they understand completely for my reasons. It would be nice to go up and surprise my family with my arrival and try to cheer everyone up because there has been a lot going on within the past year. That would be the great Christmas gift for them.

Dear Santa:
All I want for Christmas is my family to be together. My daughter can’t be home this year as she doesn’t have the funds for a train ticket. I am unable to help her to come home as I have been travelling so much for medical reasons. It has really taken a toll on all of us this year emotional and financial. This will be our first Christmas not together as a family. If I won this contest it would be the greatest gift I could ever get as I would be able to bring my daughter home to be with her family and that is the greatest gift of all…

What I love to see wrapped up under the tree is the gift of health for my family. My mother is battling cancer and I would love to be able to continue to have our family celebrating together for Christmas!

As we get older we appreciate the spirit and meaning of Christmas, we enjoy watching our children experience it for the first time, just as much as we enjoy seeing our parents have great smile on their face to have their family all under one roof. There is no substitute for it, and there is no other time of year that fosters that much lover and togetherness.

All I want for christmas is my health and my family health. Yes present would be great but with all the new babies and the wedding coming up I just want everyone to be happy and healthly.
But if I had to choose one thing .. I am really hoping for that sparkly ring from my BF of 7years.
Than the 200$ voucher would come in handy as we could go and visit my parents and show them my ring .. if I got it .. *fingers crossed*

All I want for Christmas is for my family and friends to have a healthy-er year than 2009, this economical recession to end and for more jobs to be available, for sustainability within all families so that they can also be healthy and less worried about money & food.
I wish the best for all.
Selfish greed aside, cause 2009 has been a great year for me – where I’ve succeeded in my third year at university, I’ve travelled west, and I’ve found lifelong friends – and it’s been hard with much illness within my family. Student life is expensive enough, but I’ve spent every penny I’ve earned this year enjoying myself – and visiting the parents as much as I can. So, I wish everyone else to have great experiences in 2010 & for the health of their families (and of my own).

This year I would LOVE some camping gear!!
I want to be dropped off in the middle of nowhere with a kayak to paddle and camp for a few days before floating into a familiar city and spending a night on the town. What a combination!
