Top 5: what to see and do – Jasper

Forget hibernating at home – head to Jasper! Deep in the Alberta Rockies, this area offers views, wilderness and enough winter fun to tempt anyone into the cold. I know my dream Jasper weekend includes:

1- Skiing AND snowboarding at Marmot Basin
With over 3,000 vertical feet of slopes ranging from steep alpine bowls to tree-lined glades, and a rep for uncrowdedness, this is a must-visit resort.

  2- Icefields Parkway road trip
This scenic drive cuts across the backbone of the Canadian Rockies, offering up soaring peaks, ancient glaciers, brilliant lakes and pristine forests.

3- Touring the Columbia Icefield
Ride in safety from an Ice Explorer onto the surface of the Athabasca Glacier while learning how glaciers form.

4- Backcountry trek in Jasper National Park
Step into the snowshoes of a fur trader or strap on cross-country skis to travel deep snow, spectacular vistas and wildlife.
5- Moonlit walk of Maligne Canyon
Inch carefully over an icy shelf threaded through sheer limestone cliffs and caves to reach (and touch) the frozen beauty of Angel Falls.

So get set to board a train, burn off some calories and enjoy that fireplace lounge even more!
